The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has called on governments to adopt a universal acceptance of approved COVID-19 vaccines for all travellers entering the country.

The WTTC Covid Dashboard is a website that tracks the status of COVID-19 vaccines. It allows users to see which countries have approved the vaccine and which ones are still pending.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) today released a statement containing the industry organization’s latest call for the worldwide recognition and acceptance of all approved COVID-19 vaccine brands and batches.

Last month, a business group consisting of executives from the travel and tourism industries made a similar plea to governments across the globe. The WTTC believes that too many differences between nations in terms of which vaccine kinds are recognized by border officials are preventing international travel from resuming.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats.

It cited a lack of global cooperation in compiling a generally recognized list of vaccinations produced by different manufacturers as a significant impediment to resuming international travel and restoring a feeling of normality.

Since then, the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) concern about the non-recognition of vaccines approved by regulatory health agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the United States’ Food and Drug Administration, or the United Kingdom’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has grown.

There has never been a greater need for uniform and reciprocal recognition of all authorized vaccination kinds and batches, according to the organization. The spread of hazardous virus variations across borders, as well as the need to improve immunization rates globally, has heightened the urgency. With 4.5 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered across 190 countries under different manufacturer labels, global vaccination acceptability is critical.

“WTTC strongly believes that raising the percentage of vaccinated people across the globe is the key to safely resuming international travel,” said Virginia Messina, Senior Vice President and Acting CEO of WTTC.

“However, the unpredictability of vaccination recognition by nations across the world poses a risk to the safe resumption of mobility. Leaders throughout the world, such as the United States, have the power to recognize all WHO-approved vaccinations for international travel.

“Borders cannot be successfully reopened until all nations adopt the safest and most effective vaccines available. This includes AstraZeneca, which has the broadest global reach and has been administered in 176 countries and territories, including as part of the globally significant WHO COVAX program, which seeks to provide equal access to COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.

“Building reciprocal recognition of all vaccine kinds and batches authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO) and regional authorities such as the United States Food and Drug Administration is part of boosting the push for immunizations (FDA). The absence of international cooperation to agree on a list of acceptable vaccinations is posing yet another significant roadblock to the resumption of international travel, as well as reducing the motivation for would-be passengers to be vaccinated in the first place.

“WTTC has advocated for a unified mobility framework from the start, including fewer limitations for vaccinated passengers, testing procedures, and mask use. All of these elements work together to ensure the safe resumption of international travel.”
