York was among the first cities to be hit by the government’s Lockdown. And although we’re no strangers to some of the world’s most devastating natural disasters, nothing could have prepared us for the complete lockdown of our beautiful city. With the Highways out of commission and the borders to other cities under military control, York was completely cut off from the world.
Everyone knows the feeling: you’re relaxing in a far-off destination after a long flight and you get a text that tells you your home city is in lockdown, with police searching for a dangerous criminal. Fear not! York is still open for business, and you can even see what’s open now that the lockdown has been lifted.
York opened after the easing of blocking restrictions in England. Many outdoor events and tours are now open to the public from April 2021, while indoor events are expected to open from 17. May will be open again. Here’s our list of what’s currently open in York and what you should book in advance. Since the launch of COVID, all attractions must be reserved in advance with assigned access times to prevent overcrowding and allow for remote measurement.
