The Zika virus is spreading rapidly in the Americas and thousands of babies could be born with abnormally small heads, a new study warns. Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine have published a study which warns that the virus could spread further if authorities fail to control it. The research is published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases. The team from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) studied the Zika virus’s (ZIKV) spread in Brazil, Colombia and Puerto Rico. They found that ZIKV is now a global threat, as a few cases of Zika infections have been reported in Europe and the Americas.

On October 8, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health advisory for all U.S. travelers, recommending that individuals postpone their trips to the Caribbean and Mexico and to those traveling from these areas to the U.S. The CDC also advised that doctors should consider postponing elective surgery. The CDC also advised that travelers should consider postponing elective surgery. This however is a recommendation only to be used as a precaution.

The U.S. Government has extended the public health emergency for Zika as the virus continues to spread throughout the Americas, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today. The emergency designation means federal funding and health staff can be brought in immediately to help the affected areas, although the CDC did not give specifics on when an area would be declared free of transmission. Zika virus is primarily spread by mosquitoes, and can cause microcephaly, a condition that leads to abnormally small heads and brains in newborns.. For the sixth time, the United States’ Public Health Emergency Status has been extended. The conditions under which cruise ships are operating under the Conditional Sail Order would essentially be ended if the Public Health Emergency was declared over.

On July 19, Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra prolonged the state of emergency. A declaration of a public health emergency gives government agencies broad authority to protect the public’s health and safety.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, has previously issued a No Sail order for cruise ships departing from and entering the United States, as well as the current Conditional Sail Order.

The Conditional Sailing Order remains in place.

The prolongation of the Public Health Emergency indicates that the Conditional Sail Order, which is in effect while the Public Health Emergency is in effect, is here to stay. Each extension of the emergency status is for an additional 90 days, bringing us to the end of October with the present extension.

The Conditional Sail Order may be revoked in one of three ways: after the conclusion of the Public Health Emergency, when the CDC Director revokes or changes the order based on particular public health or other factors; or on November 1, 2021, when the original order expires. Even now, the CDC chief may opt to prolong the order if the agency believes there are still substantial hazards associated with cruising.

What Do Cruise Lines Have to Say?

Despite the fact that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been under a lot of criticism in the past nine months, the new CDC recommendations seem to be a good compromise between the government and the cruise lines.

The CDC has been very fast in clearing ships for test voyages, as well as allowing the cruise industry to sail with vaccinated passengers. While cruise companies would like to sail without limitations in the future, the steps are acceptable in the cruise industry’s opinion.

If the industry sails without precautions in place and an epidemic occurs aboard, the following pandemonium will cost the business more than the profits made by traveling with full ships.

In recent weeks, it has even gotten to the point where Norwegian Cruise Line has filed a lawsuit against the state of Florida for enforcing a proof of vaccination prohibition. As Cruise Hive revealed only last week, the cruise company has the authority to demand evidence of vaccination from guests. The cruise companies seem to be content to operate under the CSO at this time.

What does this imply for cruise ship passengers? According to the most recent Carnival Cruise Line reports, not much. For many, the cruise experience has been fantastic, with fewer passengers on board but the same activities and facilities as before.

The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) recently filed a lawsuit against a cruise company for failure to vaccinate a child during a Caribbean cruise. While the U.S. Court of Federal Claims dismissed the case, the judge in the case did include some findings from the case. These findings suggest that many cruise ships have failed to grapple with the HIPAA portion of the health and safety laws, and have placed individuals in serious medical jeopardy. In fact, the cruise company has had to reimburse the child’s medical costs to the government.. Read more about cruise restrictions 2021 and let us know what you think.
