Carnival Corporation has announced that it will be operating the first-ever LNG powered cruise ships in 2019. The new vessels are being developed with an eye towards renewable energy, and they’ll also have some ground-breaking features on board. Carnival Cruise Lines has announced two new ships that will be entering service in 2019. The first is the Carnival Horizon, which will enter service in May of 2019. The second is the Carnival Elation, which will enter service in October of 2019. Read more in detail here: carnival cruise.
Carnival Corporation has had a busy week. While Carnival’s Mardi Gras, a new LNG-powered ship, was christened at Port Canaveral, two other LNG ships in Europe completed key construction milestones.
Costa Toscana, the newest member of the family, has finished her sea testing for the Italian cruise operator Costa Cruises. The Excel-class AIDAcosma was transferred from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, to Eemshaven, the Netherlands, for final outfitting and technical and navigational sea trials for the German cruise company AIDA Cruises.
With two ships hitting key milestones in a short period of time, Carnival Corporation’s efforts to sail much cleaner cruise ships are certainly gaining traction.

New ships, new landmarks
The Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland finished Costa Toscana’s sea trials, while the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany completed AIDAcosma’s difficult River Ems conveyance to the North Sea.

AIDAcosma arrived at Eemshaven at half-past five on October 23 after a convoluted River Ems journey that began on Friday night. The ship sailed backwards through the tight locks, leaving just inches between the vessel and the riverbanks. She will now prepare for her technical and navigational sea trials, which will begin in November 2021.

Engineers will test the vessel’s new Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system to cut CO2 emissions, among other things, during the sea trials. Sulfur oxides are removed, while nitrogen oxides and particulate particles are virtually totally avoided.

The initial steel cutting for Costa Toscana took place at the Meyer Turku yard in Finland in July of this year. In port and at sea, the Costa Toscana is equipped with cutting-edge technology and is fuelled by LNG. This week, the vessel passed its critical sea testing, and she is now on the verge of receiving her final delivery in December 2021.

At the same time, Costa Toscana will be able to attract new cruise passengers owing to her exceptional and creative services, assisting us in consolidating our position in the Mediterranean and our gradual restart strategy.”
At Meyer Turku, the new Costa cruise ship, Costa Smeralda’s sister, underwent its second portion of the customary coin ceremony. Commemorative coins were put aboard the ship during building, as they were on all new cruise ships, to provide good luck to the ship once it was in operation.
Both ships will begin operations in the spring of 2022.
Both AIDAcosma and Costa Toscana will begin sailing in the spring of 2022 on very similar routes, which is really suitable. The homeports of AIDAcosma will be Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. Costa Toscana will depart from four ports: Marseille, Civitavecchia, and Savona in Italy, and Barcelona in Spain.

On April 22, 2022, AIDAcosma will embark on its maiden planned voyage from Barcelona. On her inaugural trip, the ship will stop at Palma de Mallorca, LaSpezia, and Civitavecchia in Italy, as well as Ajaccio and Corsica. Guests may choose to cruise round trip from either Barcelona or Palma de Mallorca.

Costa Toscana will set sail on its first trip on March 5, 2022, from Savona, Italy. Guests may join the ship at any of the itineraries’ homeports, which include Marseille, France, Barcelona, Spain, Valencia, Spain, Palermo, Sicily, Italy, and Civitavecchia, among others.

Four Excel-class ships are presently carrying passengers and are fully operational. The Mardi Gras is sailing from the United States, the P&O Cruises Iona is sailing from the United Kingdom, the Costa Smeralda is sailing from Spain, and AIDAnova is set to begin service in mid-December.
Carnival Corporation intends to build three more LNG-powered ships. This comprises the Carnival Celebration, which is a sister ship to the Mardi Gras; the P&O Arvia, which is a sister ship to the P&O Iona; and the final one, which will also be a Carnival Cruise Line addition, despite being originally purchased for AIDA trips.
The cruise ships of the Excel-class range in size from 180,000 to 185,000 gross tonnage, depending on the configuration, and can accommodate up to 5,400 guests.
The “ccl meme stock” is a significant milestone for Carnival Corporation and its two new LNG cruise ships. The company has announced that the first ship will be delivered in 2020, while the second will follow in 2022.
