This is the second such tropical cruise program offered by the line, entirely outside U.S. waters for U.S. travelers. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ended the cruise in March 2020, and it is unclear when the industry in the U.S. can restart. The airline also plans to launch in June with departures from Nassau, Bahamas.
Sailing from Bermuda, where the homeport first opened, the 78,340 gross ton Vision of the Seas will accommodate 2,050 guests. The cruises include an overnight stay at the Royal Naval Shipyard in West End, a full day Perfect Day at CocoCay, the line’s private island in the Bahamas, and four days at sea.
Cruises are open to guests who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to guests under 18 who have tested negative. The company said the need for the vaccine may change: This current health and safety measure, like others, may evolve as the evaluation progresses. The crew will also be vaccinated.
We are grateful to the government and people of Bermuda for welcoming us with open arms to their beautiful island nation as the new home of Vision of the Seas. This is another step in our safe and deliberate return to sailing from June, said Michael Bailey, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.
Perfect Day at CocoCay ranks number one in the business based on customer satisfaction ratings. The private island features 13 water slides, including the tallest in North America, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, a helium balloon that floats up to 450 feet in the air and the Bahamas’ first floating bears.
Bermuda has addressed the recovery of its tourism economy safely and responsibly through aviation, and we are committed to doing the same for the cruise industry, said Bermuda Premier David Burt. We look forward to the unveiling of Royal Caribbean Seas’ vision in June as part of its strategic planning for the island’s tourism recovery, which, as always, is based on science.
Royal Caribbean’s health and safety measures are implemented in accordance with expert advice from the Navy health team, the Chief Public Health Officer and Chief Medical Officer, and local health and government agencies.
In addition, travelers must meet the requirements for travel to Bermuda. This currently includes a negative PCR test prior to travel, a test on arrival and completion of the appropriate entry forms. The latest political developments can be read on Bermuda’s website.
Royal Caribbean has been operating in Singapore for months and has already carried more than 50,000 guests on the Quantum Sea. The company is also planning an Odyssey of the Seas operation from Haifa, Israel in May. For more information on Royal Caribbean’s summer cruises to and from the Bahamas and Bermuda, click here.
