Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met with the Croatian community in Argentina, expressing gratitude for their support and solidarity.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic has arrived in South America for an official visit.


On Sunday, President Grabar-Kitarovic came in the Buenos Aires province of Luján, Argentina, for the annual Croatian community pilgrimage and Holy Mass.

Fr. Jozo Peranic, a Croatian priest, conducted the Holy Mass at the “Basilice de Luján.”

Following a meeting with members of the Croatian community in Luján, the Croatian President traveled to Cortinez, where she met with members of the Croatian community, Franciscans from Argentina and Peru, and nuns from the Croats’ old people’s home.

“I really hope that many of you will return to Croatia, since Croatia is in desperate need of life. Unfortunately, Croatia is demographically dying, and we must do all we can to resuscitate it, including instilling a sense of hope and confidence in ourselves, our people, our country, and our future,” President Graba-Kitarovic addressed those in attendance.

During her tour, the president will also pay visits to Croatian communities in Chile and Brazil. She is the first president to visit South America since Franjo Tudman.

Apart from meeting with Croatian politicians, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic will also meet with the presidents of Argentina and Chile, as well as the Governor of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.

Approximately 250,000 individuals of Croatian ancestry reside in Chile, mostly from the Dalmatian coast, while around 200,000 live in Argentina. Brazil has a population of about 35,000 people.

The tour will conclude on March 20th.
