Carnival has said that more than half of its fleet across all cruise brands will be sailing again by the end of October. It comes as eight cruise companies have been busily resuming operations gradually.

By the end of October, more than half of the Carnival fleet had returned.

The cruise industry’s recovery is well underway, with more than half of the Carnival Corporation fleet returning to operation by the end of October. It comprises cruise lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Costa Cruises, among others. There are eight Carnival brands operating throughout the globe, with 42 ships resuming service.

“It is clear from our initial restart of guest cruise operations across eight brands that our guests have tremendous confidence in our brands, our health and safety protocols, and the return of cruising as one of the world’s most popular vacations,” said Roger Frizzell, Carnival Corporation’s chief communications officer.

Additional ship restarts are planned before the end of the year, with the goal of having 65 percent of the fleet sailing with passengers aboard. Here are some of the highlights from each of the company’s brands:

  • Carnival Cruise Line expects to have 13 ships running in October and 17 ships by the end of the year.
  • Princess Cruises intends to launch six ships in October, with a total of eight ships in service by the end of the year.
  • In October, Holland America Line intends to put four ships into service, with a total of six ships in service by the end of the year. In addition, the company has said that all 11 ships in its fleet would be operational by spring 2022.
  • By spring 2022, Seabourn expects to have its whole fleet operational, including a new adventure ship that will make its first voyage in April 2022, bringing the total number of ships in service to six.
  • Costa Cruises expects to have five ships in service by October, with a total of six ships by the end of the year.

  • Cunard expects to put two of its three ships into service by the end of the year. In addition, the brand has said that its last ship would begin operations in April 2022.

“As the resumption of cruising gains traction and generates positive economic activity for those who rely on our industry for a living, we look forward to serving our guests with more than half our fleet capacity returning in October, while delivering a great guest experience and serving the best interests of public health,” Frizzell continues. Compliance, environmental protection, and the health, safety, and well-being of our passengers, shipboard and shoreside staff, and the communities we visit remain our greatest duty and top priority.”

Each cruise line is working with the appropriate authorities in the countries where they operate to develop procedures that ensure the safety of passengers and crew members. Operations are progressing in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom, but the situation in Australia is not looking so well. The cruise sector in Australia is still on pause, with cruise companies already extending cancellations until mid-January.
