MSC Cruises announced today that it will deploy its newest ship for summer voyages in the UK this year.

The company’s new flagship, MSC Virtuosa, will embark on its maiden voyage, embarking passengers in Southampton on 20 May. This is the first of a series of three and four-night mini-cruises before the ship launches on the 12th. Seven night trips in June.

All cruises are reserved for UK residents and travellers of all ages who have either already been vaccinated or are awaiting vaccination against COVID-19.

All passengers are screened before boarding. Non-vaccinated guests must also provide proof of a negative test result 72 hours before boarding.

The four-day mini cruises include a late departure from Southampton and a stopover on the island of Portland in Dorset, part of the Jurassic Coast, where passengers can disembark and enjoy a day on the beach. The trip also includes two days at sea to enjoy the new ship.

Starting June 12, cruise ships can make seven-day trips with stops in Portland and Belfast, Northern Ireland. The various loading ports are Liverpool and Greenock.

We are incredibly proud to offer British guests of all ages our brand new ship MSC Virtuosa for their summer holiday. I am sure they will have a great time on board, enjoying all that this incredibly innovative ship has to offer, as well as a number of protected shore excursions in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, said Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises.

We also look forward to the day when the current restrictions on international travel to the UK are lifted and we can once again welcome British visitors on board our ships in the Mediterranean and other parts of the world that we know they enjoy visiting.

Delivered in February, MSC Virtuosa is currently one of the most environmentally friendly cruise ships on the market. It offers a Mediterranean-style promenade, a variety of bars and restaurants, a water park, a spa and a fitness centre, as well as special clubs for children and teenagers.

Earlier this summer, the ship was scheduled to sail from Germany to Northern Europe, but it will be replaced on that route by the MSC Seaview.

MSC Cruises resumed operations in the Mediterranean in August. Since then, more than 55,000 passengers have sailed safely in accordance with the company’s health and safety protocol.
