In a recent article, the Associated Press reported that Hyatt Hotels has committed to “a new effort to create a more diverse and inclusive workforce” at its hotels. The company has launched what it is calling a “World of Care” commitment, complete with a “diversity & inclusion” and “equity & inclusion” working groups.

Hyatt Hotels is making a long-term commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. The commitment is called the World of Care, and it includes three key principles. The first is an overall commitment to the company’s Hyatt Place brand to create an environment that is open and welcoming to all people, especially those who are underrepresented in the workplace. The second is an ongoing commitment to promote a culture that is rooted in people, and the third is a commitment to invest in the company’s future by investing in programs that address the needs of an increasingly diverse workforce.. Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced a new commitment to openness as well as diversity, equality, and inclusion.

World of Care is the name of the new commitment, which is a worldwide Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) platform that seeks to exchange comprehensive workforce diversity statistics, fight human trafficking, and more. It is in line with several of the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations.

Hyatt has published its 2020 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report, which includes worldwide gender and U.S. racial and ethnic workforce participation for the first time in sixty years. It will now issue this report yearly as part of the corporation’s Change Starts Here pledge, which was established last year and includes a set of objectives through 2025.

“At Hyatt, we know that we achieve our greatest success when all colleagues feel confident bringing their whole selves to work each day. These diverse backgrounds and points of view fuel innovation and connect us more closely to all who are in our care,” said Malaika Myers, Chief Human Resources Officer, Hyatt. “We recognize there is much progress to be made – for our company, our industry, and our global society. Sharing our diversity data publicly and tying executive compensation to progress will ensure DE&I is further prioritized and embedded throughout the company so that Hyatt can truly reflect the diverse communities it serves and contribute to a more just world.”

Hyatt has developed one of the most thorough human trafficking training programs in the business, which is now required of all worldwide employees as part of the World of Care initiative. Workers will be able to recognize indications of human trafficking and learn how to stop it thanks to the training.

Hyatt has also started emphasizing the well-being of its employees, first by hosting a Global Wellbeing Week in June that featured events focused on emotional, mental, and physical health. The Global Month of Service is a month-long celebration of volunteerism.

In terms of sustainability, Hyatt has cut its global greenhouse gas output by 25% per square meter, started purchasing responsibly obtained seafood, and is the first global hotel brand to establish sustainability objectives with the World Wildlife Fund.

The hotel company has established a number of objectives for itself to meet by 2030, including a substantial decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as a reduction in food waste.

“Every element of our company is guided by Hyatt’s mission – to care for people so they can be their best,” said Mark Hoplamazian, President and CEO of Hyatt. “The last year’s events have highlighted the need for the business sector to respond to social problems with empathy, clarity, and responsibility. Hyatt’s commitment to caring for our people, earth, and communities is strengthened through World of Care.”
