WHY IT RATES: The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta is destined to become a superb lodging for any city tourist, combining Atlanta’s local culture with contemporary style. – Associate Writer Lacey Pfalz

The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta is set to open in December on the outskirts of Lenox Square, the southeast’s biggest retail complex, in Atlanta’s wealthy business and residential neighborhood of Buckhead. The 218-room hotel’s whimsical portrayal of local culture combined with its historical legacy will please guests and residents alike. The chic boutique hotel will serve as a jumping off point for visitors looking to enjoy the city’s shopping, entertainment, and cultural attractions. The Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta will usher in a new era of lifestyle hospitality in Atlanta’s Buckhead district.

Buckhead Hyatt Centric Both Georgia’s ancient ceramic tradition and Buckhead’s more current classification as a fashion destination will be affected by Atlanta’s design by New York-based Sawyer & Company. The hotel’s lobby will have a residential-style lounge space, as well as selected art and decorative elements that pay attention to the location’s heritage. A flowery stenciled wall, a light installation with braided pendant shades in the form of pottery, stoneware décor next to the front desk, and an enlarged accent wall constructed of terracotta will be included in the reception area.

The guestroom decor will be inspired by Georgia’s creative tradition, with wallpaper that resembles crackling glazing on pottery and the organic form of earthenware. The carpets are inspired by the Georgia clay region, while the color design is informed by the natural clay colours. The elegant headboards, which will have a sleek chevron cloth pattern, will provide a homage to the city’s current fashion label. The property’s design features that blend the past with the present will continue throughout, including a mural in the back of the building by Lenia Castro, artist and co-owner of Buckhead Murals, that will highlight Atlanta’s and Georgia’s growth and development, encouraging visitors to explore the destination.

“We’re pleased to start welcoming guests to our hotel and serving as a launchpad for visitors to discover the finest of Atlanta,” said Kristi Cotten, general manager of Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta. “Our hotel will be full of personality and truly unlike any other in the neighborhood, from our 15th-floor rooftop with panoramic views of the beautiful city skyline to our seven stunning suites, two restaurants led by an incredible James Beard Award-winning chef, and design that pays homage to Georgia’s artistic history.”

Hugh Acheson, owner of Five & Ten and Empire State South, and Christopher Wilkins, owner of Root Baking Co. and Pizza Jeans, will open their two new restaurants at Hyatt Centric Buckhead Atlanta, bringing sophisticated international food to the Atlanta dining scene. Chef Sam Herndon, a former chef de cuisine at Empire State South and Staplehouse, will oversee the eateries.

Mount Royal, a Montreal-style steakhouse that will mix the gastronomic complexity of Quebec with local items from farmers and craftsmen in southeast Georgia, will be the primary eating room attached to the lobby lounge. Breakfast, lunch, and supper will be served in the inviting restaurant, which will also provide to-go service for contactless guestroom delivery. Spaceman, an indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge on the 15th level, will be the second eating location. Craft beverages and a modest menu of artistically designed sharing meals will be available. The dining room will be cleverly planned, with internal seating bordered by two outside terraces with lounge seating, yard games, and breathtaking views of the Atlanta cityscape.

Accent wall coverings and art pieces mirroring the pottery design idea will be included in the hotel’s spacious second-floor meetings and events area. There will be built-in wet bar sections in all of the spaces, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows and lounge seating. Three conference rooms (Stoneware, Fuller’s Earth, and Kaolin), one big social space (Artisan, which is divisible), and one boardroom (Jugtown) make up the 3,702 square feet of total meeting and social space. Each room is named after Georgia’s 19th-century pottery industry. Signature accessories such as a cozy, hooded bathrobe, exclusive Beekind® – high-end, socially conscious bath amenities, Drybar® – salon-quality hair dryer, bright and spacious fitness center with two Peloton bikes, an outdoor heated plunge pool with pool sun deck located on the 2nd floor rooftop, restaurant-to-go and contactless room service, and complimentary Wi-Fi in guestrooms and public spaces are among the other hotel amenities. Guests will also have easy access to the city’s PATH400, a multi-use Greenway for bikes and walkers that runs next to the hotel and allows visitors to easily explore the city on foot.
