The Caribbean is one of the most popular winter destinations in the world. It has captivated the imagination of travelers for centuries, and there is no surprise that the region welcomes millions of vacationers every year. For those planning their winter vacation, there are a number of properties that are newly constructed, and others that have been renovated—and you don’t want to miss them!

The Caribbean is an incredibly diverse destination, with everything from gigantic resort hotels to remote island cottages for rent. (Many of the most luxurious destinations are also the most isolated, and require hopping through multiple islands to reach.) Fortunately, there are plenty of options for travelers who prefer a little more convenience in their vacations, with several new hotels opening in 2016.

The Caribbean is never a bad decision. Especially since we will definitely be visiting this city in 2021: During the pandemic, new hotels continued to be built, while others received an impressive refurbishment. Here is the latest news from the islands.

The Ritz-Carlton will open its doors in the Turks and Caicos Islands in June, just in time for the start of the summer holidays. Located on Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales Island, The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos offers a variety of luxury accommodations, including 27 ocean-view suites, adult and private cabanas, a variety of restaurants, a state-of-the-art spa and a casino with the latest slot machines and table games.

Provo, as the locals call it, is the most developed and populous island and the center of tourist activity in Turks and Caicos. In addition to the world-famous Grace Bay beach, the resort area offers many activities for those looking for adventure outside of the resort. For example: A round of golf at Provo Golf Club (18 holes); fish fry on the island with the locals on Thursdays; restaurants and caterers with local culinary delights; and snorkeling at Smith’s Reef.

We were told that the deluxe rooms are suitable for both couples and families (one king size bed for the former and two queen size for the latter). These rooms are located directly on the sea and have a balcony. The junior suite is also a good choice for couples who need more space, and the two-bedroom presidential suite is the highest room on the property. There is a bedroom with a king size bed and a second bedroom with a queen size bed, and two and a half bathrooms.

One of the dining options is BLT Steak, an American steakhouse featuring prime steaks, fresh seafood and a weekly chalkboard menu that highlights seasonal flavors and local ingredients. Cocktails, craft beers and an extensive wine list will accompany the menu. There will also be a restaurant on the beach and a cafe open all day.

We’re told that the menu at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Turks & Caicos, is inspired by the calming power of the ocean. The treatments use local plants and practices for a holistic approach to wellness. In addition to the spa, there are relaxation rooms, a fitness center, and hair and nail services.

The Strand, Turks and Caicos, a 2,230-foot private residential development on Cooper Jack Bay, is also set to open this year. The Strand will offer a limited collection of luxury beach villas, single-family homes and building lots, as well as access to community programs and all resort amenities and services.

The courtyard of one of the residences of The Strand, in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The Strand will open in late 2021 and will have direct ocean access from each residence. In addition to the shoreline, the property has 1,400 feet of canal bank and a marina that accommodates owners, as well as several public boat shelters.

Owners and guests of the 46 residences can enjoy a range of community facilities for sports and socialising, as well as access to a beach and tennis club. Resort facilities include a tennis court, two pickleball courts and a fitness center with a secluded yoga area. Yoga and fitness classes will be offered to owners and their guests.

Tip: Cooper Jack Bay is well located for sport fishing and diving and is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and various other water sports. Other amenities on the water include access to The Strand’s club boat with a private captain, catamarans, kayaks, windsurfers and more.

There will also be a waterfront restaurant and bar, ranging from a covered space inside to a waterfront patio with garden tables outside. The beach club flows into the central resort-style pool, designed like a lagoon surrounded by local limestone, palm trees and soft lighting at night. Access to the restaurant and bar is reserved for the public and members and guests will have priority seating.

Good to know: The complex manager/concierge is available 24 hours a day to meet all the needs of owners and guests. A la carte club services include in-home spa services, housekeeping, pre-arrival groceries, private chef and catering, airport transportation, landscaping and security.

The two bedroom villas are designed with self contained units on separate levels and offer one and two bedroom floors. Each will have its own private pool, outdoor shower and bath. The additional roof terrace has an outdoor kitchen, bar and dining area. The villas will have over 3,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space.

These four and five bedroom homes will feature a two-story living room overlooking the pool and Caicos Shoals. The main house has four en-suite oceanfront bedrooms, an infinity pool and a courtyard with an outdoor kitchen. Some properties have a pool and spa in the backyard, a one bedroom guest house and a family room. The luxury residences have an interior area of approximately 4,500 square feet and an interior and exterior area of approximately 8,300 square feet.

Ultimately, the six-bedroom, seven-bath Grand Residences will have approximately 7,300 square feet of enclosed space and 14,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space. The main homes will have five bedrooms with private bathrooms directly on the ocean, including the master bedroom on the second floor. The spacious living room opens onto a formal outdoor terrace and infinity pool. The courtyard will have a pool with spa, an outdoor kitchen, a family and recreation room and a one bedroom guest house.

In Jamaica, Ocean Coral Spring Hotel, which opened in late 2019, plans to open a second property, Ocean Eden Bay, in May 2021. The adults-only Ocean Eden Bay Hotel is located in Trelawney, Coral Spring, right on the Montego Bay coast, with access to a spectacular white sand beach with turquoise waters. Ocean Eden Bay will offer modern accommodation, a large swimming pool and a wide range of dining options, including an exclusive restaurant with themed shows – Senses Dinner Show.

Rooms in Ocean Eden Bay Hotel.

Guests can choose from 444 suites. Our favorites are the Swim Up suites, which, as the name suggests, have direct access to the pool via the terrace. These rooms also have a bedroom, a living room with sofa bed and a bathroom with whirlpool bath. We also love the two-story Roof Top Suites, whose terraces (complete with lounge chairs and hot tubs) offer some of the best views in the hotel. There is also a master bedroom, a sitting area with a sofa bed and a bathroom with a whirlpool bath.

There will also be a buffet restaurant, four a la carte restaurants and a dinner show venue. For the Senses Dinner Show you need to book in advance when booking your stay. Other options include a steakhouse that will be open for dinner only and Blue Moon, a romantic international restaurant that will be open for breakfast and dinner.

Other facilities include a swimming pool with a bar, a beach area with sun loungers, and the Despacio Spa. At the spa you can enjoy the indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Facilities include massages, personal spa and beauty treatments, a beauty and hair salon and a 24-hour gym.

The neighboring Ocean Coral Spring Hotel is family oriented and has 513 suites with all amenities. Guests will find another swimming pool and a quiet river with a gentle current, plus 10 restaurants, nine bars, Mike’s Coffee ice cream parlor, a theater, a nightclub, a bowling alley and much more.

The Daisy Club Ocean Coral Spring is designed for children aged four to twelve. The courses are taught by a team of professionals, accompanied by Daisy, the mascot. Children can go to the water park, playground, games room, music shows and much more. The hotel also has a teen club and a Despacio spa, in case the adults want to relax while the kids are taken care of.

The Privilege Master Suite is the highest room on the property. These suites overlook the sea, the pool or the garden and have a terrace with sun loungers and jacuzzi, as well as a separate bedroom and living room. However, for larger families there is the Daisy Family Junior Suite, located next to the water park, with a bedroom, living room with sofa bed and terrace.

F&B facilities include international cuisine, Italian, Asian, Caribbean, Indian and American barbecues.

Another hotel renovation involves the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino in Palm Beach, which recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation. Trankilo has 10 private cabins equipped with showers, smart TV, Bose Bluetooth audio system, mini bar with water, soft drinks, local beer and wine, snacks, island aloe products, lounge chairs and sofa.
