As part of Century Cruises’ plans to expand its operations into China, the company has purchased a former Greek cruise ship. The 1,600-passenger vessel, which was built in 1990, has launched in China under the name “Carnival Glory” and will operate new cruise vacations between Shanghai and Hong Kong. “We’re very pleased to be working with Carnival as part of our China strategy and look forward to offering our guests a new, high-quality cruise experience,” said Century Cruises CEO Chin Chew Sim.

It is a sad fact that it is harder to get a cruise on one of the most luxurious cruise ships in the world than it is to book a flight to another country. So far, Royal Caribbean has announced that it will be stopping all of its cruises from embarking on new routes to China. The company is also looking to buy a ship that was formerly operated by the Carnival cruise line, but has since been turned into a floating theme park. While this is an unfortunate move for the company, it has come at a good time for travelers looking to visit China.

Following months of speculation, a Chinese river cruise operator has announced that the former Carnival Cruise ship, Carnival Fascination, would be deployed as a cruise ship in and around China. When Carnival sold the ship last year, there were rumors that she might be converted into a floating hotel or demolished. However, none of these seems to be the case.

Chongqing Grand Century Cruises Ltd, commonly known as Century Trips, is a Chinese cruise line that specializes in river cruises, with nine boats on the Yangtze River. It has now expanded to include ocean cruises. Century Harmony will be the new moniker for Carnival Fascination.

Carnival Fascination is renamed and relaunched as a cruise line.

When pictures of a damaged and bruised Carnival Fascination lying in Cadiz, Spain, slowly rusting away surfaced in December of last year, it was a terrible sight. Several news sources claimed at the time that she will be utilized as a hotel ship in Asia.

We were able to announce in May of this year that the vessel had begun renovations and maintenance in preparation for her second career as a cruise liner in China. She is now docked in Manila Bay, Philippines, and seems to be in much better shape than she was seven months ago, as shown by the picture below, while still resembling a Carnival ship with the distinctive tail.

“We were restless and eager to travel farther east, to the ocean,” Century Cruises stated. As a consequence, Century Cruises purchased the Century HARMONY, an ocean-going ship. “

The Century Harmony, which was built in 1994 and weighs 70,367 tons, will accommodate 2056 passengers in 1026 staterooms. The majority of the features that were formerly aboard Carnival Fascination will be retained by Century Cruises.

The Sensation and Imagination dining rooms (despite their names), the lido restaurant, and even a Burger Joint bar (yep, it’s the old Guy’s Burgers) will remain aboard. You may also see a short video of the Century Harmony getting some work done by clicking here.

In China, Century Harmony Cruising

Given the current travel distances and limitations, many people would consider a cruise in China to be a distant dream. However, in the past 10 years, the sector has experienced tremendous development in the world’s biggest nation.

River cruises on the Yangtze River have grown in popularity among both Chinese and international visitors, and firms like as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Corporation have increased their focus on the Chinese market.

Century Cruises, as the Yangtze River’s biggest operator, has been waiting for the perfect moment to launch ocean cruises in China, which has arrived with Carnival Fascination.

“After a long year of uncertainty in the cruise industry across the world, the new purchase is a signal to greater things to come,” the cruise line stated. Century Cruises has long been interested in ocean cruises, having witnessed a large number of foreign cruise lines sail via Shanghai, Shenzhen, Sanya, Tianjin, Hong Kong, and Macau. We can now provide unique insights into this beautiful nation, based on our extensive expertise and vast experience, as the top Cruise business in China, having been “born and raised” in China.”

Century Cruises was one of the earliest Chinese cruise companies to operate around the Chinese mainland. Genting, which runs Asia’s biggest cruise line, Dream Cruises, and Star Cruises are two more businesses with operations in the region. Chinese state-owned Nanhai Cruises and state-owned Bohai Cruises, who run the MS Chinese Taishan, previously known as Costa Voyager, are two other operators.

The main cruise lines have also made substantial investments in the nation, which is still considered a promising development market. China is served by Costa Venetia and Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas.

Costa Atlantica and Costa Mediterranea will sail with Chinese guests under the new joint venture CSSC Carnival, according to an agreement between Carnival Cruise Line and China State Shipbuilding Corporation. Despite the fact that outbound Chinese passengers were anticipated to exceed 200 million by 2020, because to the epidemic, China is likely to ultimately become the world’s biggest cruise market.
