The 2021 Spring Break scene is definitely different.

The pandemic is not over yet, although the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and more and more people want to travel again.

However, travel restrictions have been added this year and extra emphasis has been placed on health and safety protocols to keep everything as clean as possible.

There are many destinations that have been given the stamp of safe travel, but also destinations that allow for easy social distancing. There are also major theme parks that adhere to CDC guidelines, which show that they can operate safely during this period.

We decided that a spring break trip to Florida to first visit Walt Disney World and then go to the beach would be best for our family. To pack for a trip during a pandemic, we had to bring a few masks, extra hand sanitizer and what seemed like a truckload of baby wipes for our one-year-old daughter.

During our first stay at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, we were greeted with relief. There are protocols that definitely make the parks different – masks are mandatory for anyone over two, not all attractions work, social distance markers are everywhere, many lines even have plexiglass – but our family never felt unsafe.

Oh, and the Disney magic was definitely still there. The performers always provide an entertaining experience for everyone.

This was our first trip to Disney and the beach with our one year old and we wondered how she would do.

A stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort offers easy Skyliner access to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.

The resort itself is a nice place to walk around and is right next to Disney’s new resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, which is worth a visit in its own right.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has its own themed pool, children’s pool, gift shop and many restaurants. It was easy to move around, order food, pick it up at one of the windows and eat it at one of the socially isolated tables. At Centertown Market, the Cuban sandwich is delicious, as are the fish tacos – we ate here several nights for the convenience and good food.

Walt Disney World is currently only at 35% capacity, lagging behind the company, especially in the resorts. The Caribbean Beach Resort has even promoted touchless check-in and check-out for its guests. This meant no waiting in the hall. Step-by-step instructions were available on the My Disney Experience app. The room number, hotel card, and electronic key are all included in this app, and for those with a magic bracelet, you only need to touch it to unlock your hotel room. When we left, all we had to do was pack up and leave.

A standard room with a nice king size bed, table and chairs, mini fridge and a modern bathroom, all in a semi Caribbean theme. For those traveling with young children, it is good to know that these rooms are equipped with a bathtub and cots, which are available upon request. The crib was a mini crib, it had its own sheet and was disinfected before delivery.

The parks themselves are more magical than ever, and the Skyliner ride was really a breeze. Our daughter met Mickey and Minnie, was excited about all the attractions, and loved sleeping in her stroller while we toured the parks.

It’s easy to follow the new rules, and with all the new protocols, the visit seemed safe.

From Orlando we went to Sarasota, Florida to relax on the beach.

Siesta Key and Lido Beach are consistently among the best beaches in Florida, and once you step onto the sand, you’ll understand why. Siesta Key’s powdery white sand offers plenty of room to relax and get away from the neighbors.

Social distancing is crucial in the world we live in today, and it can be a challenge to do that on the beach, but luckily it was a breeze thanks to Siesta Key’s amazing space.

If you are traveling with children, Sarasota offers many activities such as visiting the Mote Aquarium, Bayfront Park, Big Cat Habitat, Ringling Museum, etc.

With the city’s Great Pass, visitors can enjoy many attractions at a discounted price.

It is important to note that some of these attractions must be booked well in advance due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Embassy Suites by Hilton Sarasota is not only centrally located, but is also a well-appointed oasis where you can relax. Our room was equipped with a kitchen, a living room, a nice modern bathroom and a separate bedroom.

For those traveling with children who go to bed at a different time than you, having a sleeping area separate from the living room is a huge advantage. Packing sets are available upon request, but we traveled with our own. The hotel has a pool on the eighth floor for your enjoyment, is equipped with a fitness center, offers a continental breakfast in the morning and also houses an excellent restaurant – Bridges.

Downtown Sarasota has great restaurants and shops, all within walking distance of the Embassy Suites. Some establishments also offer outdoor seating, which is a welcome attraction for those who want their own space while still dining at a local restaurant.

Overall, our first spring break as a family of three went well. Our little one loved playing in the sand and seeing Mickey and Minnie for the first time. We were able to stay in socially remote locations and our hotels provided us with a clean and safe vacation.

Florida will always be a hot spot for spring break. We faced some new challenges and risks this year, but with the state’s business community placing more emphasis on health and safety protocols, we felt very comfortable exploring popular Disney and beach locations.
