Travelers seeking a tropical getaway will soon have another option to consider. After a successful vaccination program among tourist employees, Fiji is gearing up to welcome visitors again before the end of the year.
Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, spoke with us about how the island country is preparing to welcome tourists back.
“It’s a long and thorough process to go through, beginning with making sure our product is ready and at the worldwide standard we desire,” Hill said. “All of the components revolve around the procedures we use to keep both residents and visitors safe. We want visitors to Fiji to feel completely secure.”
What’s Hot Right Now
With 100 percent of its target population, including those who work in tourism and with tourists, vaccinated, the country is on the verge of reopening to foreign visitors without quarantine. Hill complimented the vaccination rate and the campaign’s success in inoculating so many people.
“This will offer visitors a sense of security,” Hill added.
Major public personalities backed the vaccine effort, and the Fijian people understood the need of immunization in a tourism-dependent country.
“People are like’sign me up’ when they learn they can safeguard their health and go back to work,” Hill added.
Tourism Fiji is working with airlines to simplify entrance procedures, which will be for fully vaccinated tourists with quick testing at the airport before departure as the nation nears reopening. Visitors will also need to obtain COVID-19 travel insurance in case they need to be quarantined, hospitalized, or evacuated. For individuals returning to countries where a test is required, testing will also be available at resorts.
Fiji also has particular business procedures in place, such as the Care Fiji Commitment, a WHO-approved standard of best-practice health and safety practices intended to align the sector with safe travel norms in a post-COVID world.

Hill hopes that by implementing these guidelines, tourists will be able to relax and enjoy their holidays.
“You’ll be able to accomplish a lot of things without having to worry about COVID every minute of the day,” Hill added.
Of course, reopening will not happen immediately, but Hill said that many Fijian resorts would be open when tourists return.
“Half of the hotels will be open straight away,” he said. “Some of the smaller estates on some of the more isolated islands are still unable to send personnel. So they may not be open on December 1st, but they might be by January.”

Bookings are currently available, and Hill anticipates a significant increase in guests once the restaurant reopens.
“Right now, hotels are receiving a lot of enquiries, which is fantastic,” Hill added. “People are hearing that Fiji is opening up and are eager to visit.”
He also said that some of the flights and packages that are being released right now, in advance of the reopening, are amazing.
Whatever happens, Hill promises that visitors will be greeted with a hearty Fijian welcome.
“One thing I can tell is that the Fijians are looking forward to seeing visitors again.”
