Brazil has become the new destination of choice with its warm weather, beautiful beaches, and stunning natural wonders. The country’s resurgence is benefiting cruise lines like Royal Caribbean which plan to bring their ships back by early 2019.

The “cruise updates 2021” is a report that claims cruise ships will return to Brazil by the end of the year. The country was previously home to one of the largest cruise industries, before it was banned in 2016 due to pollution.

In 2021 and 2022, the Brazilian government has allowed the reintroduction of cruise tourism to the nation. Six Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises boats will sail from Brazil, with one voyage leaving from Argentina and stopping in Brazil.

According to Brazil Ministry of Tourism officials, the operators will offer 130 itineraries with 570 stops in Brazilian ports including Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Salvador, Angra dos Reis, Balneário Cambori, Bzios, Cabo Frio, Fortaleza, Ilha Grande, Ilhabela, Ilhéus, Itaja, Maceió, Porto Belo, Recife, and Ubatuba.

Reopening from COVID-19

“The season was permitted by the government, which made every effort to let the season to take place,” said Brazil’s tourism minister, Gilson Machado Neto, “as ships create thousands of direct and indirect employment in Brazil.”

The cruise stops, according to Neto, would produce $500 million for the Brazilian economy and 40,000 direct and indirect employment. The cruise lines will follow CLIA Brazil’s regulations, which were used during the Costa and MSC cruises fleet’s European operation this summer.

All visitors are tested for COVID-19, and crew members are tested before boarding in their home city, on arrival at the ship’s destination, and before boarding the ship. Onboard ships, crew members will be tested once a week. Masks and social distance are necessary in public locations, and vessels will operate at 70% of their full guest capacity.

“All entities will collaborate with Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to develop extra measures to assure the safety of the whole operation,” authorities stated.

More than 100 million of the nation’s 211 million citizens would have been properly vaccinated by the end of October, according to Ministry authorities, which “directly effects the control of the pandemic and the building of a safe environment in the country.”
