Maiden Voyage of the Wonders of the Seas
The world’s biggest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, has embarked on its first journey, as you are probably aware. After a small delay, the massive ship left Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday evening, March 4 for the first voyage with passengers aboard. Despite the worldwide epidemic, the cruise sector continues to advance and flourish, making this a key highlight of the year.
The ship landed in the United States on February 20th, to much fanfare, and was greeted warmly in Florida. Since then, the ship has been preparing for the first trip by taking the crew and family members on a brief sailing to Royal Caribbean’s own island Perfect Day at Cococay in the Bahamas.

The ship is presently heading for its first stop at Labadee, Haiti, which is a Royal Caribbean exclusive destination. It will also stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nassau, Bahamas, and Perfect Day at CocoCay. On March 11, the first journey will return to Florida.
The final journey of the Wonder of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale for this season will depart on April 15. The ship will reposition to her summer homeports in Spain and Italy between April 20 and May 8, with Mediterranean voyages running until October 30, 2022.
The Royal Caribbean cruise ship will arrive in Port Canaveral, Florida, in November 2022. She will sail 7-night itineraries to the eastern and western Caribbean from the world-famous cruise port.
The fifth Oasis-class ship has a gross tonnage of 236,857 tons and a length of 1,188 feet. At double occupancy, the ship can accommodate 5,734 passengers and 2,300 foreign staff members.
Carnival Cruise Line is back in business after a brief hiatus.
Today celebrates the return of the first Carnival cruise ship to Mobile, Alabama. The Carnival Ecstasy landed in the port on March 3 in preparation for sailings to start today, March 5. Since the industry-wide ban began in March 2020, this is the first cruise voyage with passengers in two years.

Carnival Ecstasy will embark on a special “Sailabration” trip to commemorate Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th anniversary. This trip will feature a “Fun Ship Meetup” at sea, when Carnival Ecstasy will meet up with other ships in the fleet to exchange birthday pleasantries.
On Monday, March 7, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Glory, Mardi Gras, Carnival Pride, Carnival Sunrise, and Carnival Vista will meet between Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. This is the biggest of the fleet’s Fun Ship gatherings.
In the meanwhile, the Carnival Ecstasy will leave the Fun Ship fleet after a spring and summer season of 5-night Western Caribbean itineraries that will visit Cozumel and either Costa Maya or Progreso, depending on the sailing date.
Itinerary Changes on Carnival Ships
There have been changes to the Carnival Spirit out of Jacksonville and the Carnival Magic out of Port Canaveral in the most recent update to booked passengers. Five sailings are affected in total, however the most of the adjustments are minor, such as arrival and departure timings.
For the Carnival Magic, the cruise line has removed a port for the December 23 eight-day Eastern Caribbean voyage. The call to Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos Islands on December 23 has been replaced with Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. The ship will arrive at the alternative port of call at 7:00 AM and depart at 3:00 PM.

All other ports along the way, including St. Maarten, St. Kitts, and San Juan, remain unchanged. Any pre-purchased shore excursions via Carnival will be instantly reimbursed, and tour choices for Amber Cove will be available in the next week, according to the cruise company.
The Carnival Spirit has had some changes as well, although they are modest and no ports have been deleted. The ship’s five-day cruises on March 7 and 21 are now slated to arrive at 9:30 a.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
Carnival Spirit will now leave the Port of Jacksonville at 8:30 p.m. on March 26 for a five-day Bahamas cruise. The cruise is unaffected by the delayed departure. Carnival Spirit will depart Jacksonville at 8:00 p.m. on April 9 for its last journey before redeploying to Seattle.
In comparison to other recent adjustments, the Carnival Magic and Spirit changes are small. The departure of Grand Turk is expected to have the largest effect since it is such a popular port of call. The cruise company did not state why the modification was made, however it might be due to schedule difficulties or port agreements.
Mask Policy on Disney Cruise Lines
Disney Cruise Line has declared that, beginning of March 11, 2022, it would modify its onboard mask rule for sailings leaving from U.S. ports, according to revised regulations on its website. “Face coverings will be optional in most interior spaces across our ships commencing March 11, 2022 for sailings originating from a U.S. port of departure,” the rules indicate.
However, there are certain exceptions. In the Walt Disney Theater, all customers aged 2 and above, even those who have been completely vaccinated, must continue to wear masks. Because this theater is often packed, it’s understandable that safeguards will be maintained at the venue, as social distance would be difficult.

Prior to March 11, all guests ages 2 and up must wear masks in all indoor places, regardless of vaccination status, except in their cabins or when actively eating and drinking.
Because children under the age of five are not eligible for vaccination at this time, the youngest Disney Cruise Line passengers must continue wear masks aboard after March 11. In Youth Activity areas, guests under the age of 5 must still wear facial coverings.
After March 11, guests who have not been vaccinated, especially young cruisers who are not eligible for immunizations, are urged but not forced to wear masks in interior places.
Increase in Norwegian Cruise Line Gratuities
Norwegian Cruise Line has sent out a letter warning customers and travel agencies that from April 1, 2022, gratuities will be raised. Depending on the cabin category customers are booked in, the price will increase by at least 50 cents.
The daily service fee will be raised to $16.00 per person for passengers booked in a balcony stateroom or lower. The fee is now $15.50 per person per day. The daily rate for visitors in a Club Balcony suite will continue at $18.00 per person.

Guests booked in The Haven & Suite will have their daily gratuities increased to $20.00. Currently, the rate for that category is $18.50 per person per day. This will be a $1.50 increase that will go into effect from April 1, 2022.
Guests may take advantage of the current discounted cost offered by Norwegian Cruise Line. Guests who book a reservation before March 31, 2022, may pay their gratuities in advance at the existing rate. This must be completed prior to the sailing date. Nothing will change if visitors have already paid the service fee before to their trip.
Russia is being dropped from cruise lines’ itineraries.
The cruise industry is abandoning cruise ship excursions to Russia, especially the renowned cruise destination of St Petersburg, because to the dangerous scenario that is developing in Ukraine. So, let’s have a look at what the main cruise lines are up to.
Carnival Corporation indicated that its cruise companies were focusing on altering itineraries and finding new ports of call. Princess Cruises, a Carnival company, has announced that calls to Russia would be removed from 24 sailings, affecting the Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, and Island Princess. Sweeden and Poland are two more options for ports.
On March 4, Holland America Line reported that six itineraries that were slated to visit Russian ports this year had been changed. AIDA Cruises said that ship trips to the nation will be discontinued, and that summer Baltic sailings would be rescheduled.

Norwegian Cruise Line was one of the first cruise companies to announce that all calls to Russia will be discontinued. In reality, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, the parent business, has canceled all of its three cruise brands’ trips to Russia in 2022.
Royal Caribbean has also chosen to cancel St Petersburg sailings on the Voyager of the Seas, the fleet’s sole ship set to visit the nation this year. The cruise company was one of the last to announce the cancellations, and it did so after facing criticism for first refusing to commit to a total withdrawal.
