Citi is the latest bank to partner with Choice Hotels, a hotel chain that’s been popular in Europe and Asia for years. The partnership will allow guests to transfer points from their Choice Hotels account into a Citibank rewards card or be used to book stays at Choice hotels.

Choice Hotels is offering 1-to-1 transfer ratios for their points. This means that if you have 100,000 points, you can get $100 in travel credit. Read more in detail here: choice hotels near me.

Citi adds Choice Hotels as a better-than-one-to-one point transfer partner.

on October 18, 2021 by Gary Leff

I am compensated for the content and many links on my site. Citibank, American Express, Chase, Barclays, and Capital One are all advertising partners on this site. My advertising partners have not reviewed, authorized, or supported any of the views stated in this article. I don’t write about all credit cards; instead, I concentrate on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). The offers and perks mentioned on this website are subject to the terms.

Citibank has introduced Choice Privileges as a point transfer partner with a better-than-one-to-one ratio. Choice points are worth approximately $0.006 each, therefore transferring at a ratio of 1:2 isn’t excessive. In fact, it’s better than transferring points to hotels with most bank transferrable currencies (other than moving points to Hyatt). And since a Choice point may be worth more than a cent each, there’s definitely a strategic advantage to converting one Citi point into two Choice points.

After $4,000 in purchases during the first three months of account activation, the Citi Premier® Card offers the largest-ever introductory bonus of 80,000 bonus points.

3 points per dollar spent at restaurants, supermarkets, petrol stations, air travel, and hotels are earned on this $95 annual fee card. That’s a big list of triple-point-earning categories. I could envision a Choice transfer returning 6 cents for every dollar spent in value.

Points may now be transferred to a number of other frequent flyer programs, including:

  • Aeromexico Club Premier, Air France KLM Flying Blue are members of the SkyTeam alliance.
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Malaysia Airlines Enrich, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and American Airlines AAdvantage (until November 13, 2021)* are all part of the oneworld alliance.
  • Avianca LifeMiles, EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus, and Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles are all members of the Star Alliance.
  • Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, JetBlue TrueBlue, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club are non-alliance airlines.
  • Choice Privileges at Hotels

When Hilton’s co-brand partnership with American Express became exclusive, Citi lost Hilton as a points transfer partner. Choice provides it with a hotel transfer partner, which I appreciate more than American Express’s Hilton transfers (because in my view one Choice point is worth more than one Hilton point).

While some of the greatest Choice offers may be found at low-cost hotels with little points, they also have more aspirational redemptions, such as the Ascend Hotel Collection, that are often missed.

Due to the fact that Citi Prestige is no longer accessible to new cardholders. Citi’s main rival in the transferable points market is the Citi Premier® Card, and they’ve increased their effort in recruiting new consumers. The card’s 80,000 points are a strong incentive to acquire it.

And the transfer partners are powerful, though not unique in certain instances. Qatar’s Privilege Club has improved significantly and is now quite appealing, particularly for QSuites redemptions.

Despite the fact that Virgin Atlantic miles are typically less valued than other currencies, they have some amazing sweet spots.

Turkish Airlines allows you to lock in an award for 48 hours before transferring points. The cost to cancel and re-deposit is just $25. United’s first-class flights to the Caribbean or Hawaii are just 12,500 miles one-way. In business class, Europe is just 45,000 miles away, while India is 52,500 miles away (plus fuel surcharges).

Singapore Airlines is excellent in booking awards in long-haul premium seats on Singapore Airlines flights. EVA Airways, on the other hand, has a very undervalued program.

This card works nicely with the Citi Custom CashSM Card, which has no annual fee and provides a 5% return in certain areas that vary each month depending on what you spend the most on. You may transfer the points to frequent flyer programs by transferring them to your Citi Premier® Card account.

Out of restaurants, gas stations, grocery shops, select travel and transportation, select streaming services, drugstores, home improvement stores, fitness clubs, and live entertainment, your 5x category with the Citi Custom CashSM Card will be the one you spend the most in.
