Can Carnival June Cruises still sail?
While Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises have announced Caribbean cruises in recent weeks, a recent letter and video from Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy reveals that they have no plans to follow suit.
We remain very encouraged by the recent release of the vaccine and the positive progress being made, Duffy said in her video. I hope one day everyone gets vaccinated. In fact, I’m going to get a shot tomorrow. But we haven’t decided if the vaccinations are mandatory before boarding.
Mr Duffy described the timetable for resuming sailings from US ports as uncertain and mentioned other companies planning sailings from Caribbean ports. But she said Carnival is not currently considering removing its ships from their U.S. home ports. I’ve always said that Carnival Cruise Line is America’s cruise line.
The focus remained on points that had long been strong selling points for the line. We sail from 14 U.S. home ports, 50% of our itineraries are less than 7 days long, and many of our guests vacation on a Carnival cruise.
Duffy pointed out that many of her customers go on cruises with children – and that vaccines are not currently allowed for children under 16 – and added that Carnival hopes to see progress on the domestic front for these reasons.

As more and more Americans get vaccinated, we are in the process of deciding whether to resume cruises from our home ports in the U.S., in line with the expected return of other types of travel this summer. But with the promise that all Americans who want the vaccine will have access to it by the end of May, we are hopeful that travel can resume by the summer.
The shipping company has therefore decided to keep hope alive rather than cancel sailings in June.
To that end, the director addressed a topic that has long been on the back burner, not only in the industry but also among cruise fans: If it is safe to fly, stay at a hotel or resort or visit an amusement park, it is also safe to travel with the additional health and safety protocols we have in place.
Extension of deadline for final payment
Understanding that people’s summer vacation plans are now under wraps – and to provide as much flexibility as possible – Carnival has offered several options and moved the payment deadline for June travel to the 30th. Extended April.
We will certainly make a decision before then, the letter to cruisers states, but this action allows those who have not yet made a final payment to wait until we have more clarity on the trip before doing so.
The video ends with a thank you to Duffy for his patience and support. We are all very much looking forward to sailing again when the time comes, she concludes, and hopefully from the United States.
