Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it is resuming its itineraries from Mobile, Alabama after a two year break. Carnival originally left the port in 2015 when Hurricane Katrina heavily damaged the area and forced a temporary suspension of operations.

The “carnival cruise line news” is a story about how Carnival Cruise Line will resume operations in Mobile, Alabama after two years of absence.

Carnival Cruise Line Ready to Resume from Mobile, Alabama After Two Year Absence

The Carnival Ecstasy has moored in Mobile, Alabama, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic closure started in March 2020. On Thursday, March 3, the ship returned to the cruise port ahead of its inaugural departure from the city on Saturday.

Mobile’s Carnival Ecstasy

After a two-year absence, the Carnival Ecstasy is bringing cruising back to Mobile, Alabama. Carnival Sensation was originally slated to depart from Mobile, but when it was discovered that Carnival Sensation would be delayed, she was substituted by Carnival Ecstasy. Further statements emphasized that the Carnival Sensation would not be returning to service, but would instead be scrapped.

In the meanwhile, the Carnival Ecstasy will leave the Fun Ship fleet after a spring and summer season of 5-night Western Caribbean itineraries that will visit Cozumel and either Costa Maya or Progreso, depending on the sailing date.

The much-anticipated return of the Fantasy-class ship to cruising and the resumption of cruise travel operations from Mobile will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2022, when she sets sail on a special “Sailabration” trip in honor of Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th birthday celebration. This trip will feature a “Fun Ship Meetup” at sea, when Carnival Ecstasy will meet up with other ships in the fleet to exchange birthday pleasantries.

On Monday, March 7, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Glory, Mardi Gras, Carnival Pride, Carnival Sunrise, and Carnival Vista will meet between Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. This is the biggest of the fleet’s Fun Ship gatherings.

Officials in Mobile are ecstatic that the ship has returned and that sailings from the city have resumed. At a media gathering to welcome the cruise ship, David Clark, president and CEO of Visit Mobile, remarked, “We’re ‘Born to Celebrate,’ and it’s back to fun.”

Cruising Makes a Comeback in Mobile

Guests arriving to board Mobile’s Carnival Ecstasy will be greeted by a renovated and updated cruise terminal, with additions that highlight tourism in the region and invite guests to explore Mobile.

In addition to general repainting, new terminal monitors, and gangway updates, a new mural was completed by local artist Ginger Woechan highlighting the five tourism pillars of Mobile: History, Arts & Culture, Culinary Travel, Eco-Tourism, and Mardi Gras. In addition to her own work as a muralist, Woechan is also an art instructor and art therapist, and her artwork can be found throughout Mobile.

According to Advance Local Media in Alabama, the port terminal will be getting further enhancements shortly, including new flooring throughout the complex.

Despite the fact that the Carnival Ecstasy will only be landing in the city until October, when she will depart the fleet, the city plans to continue expanding its facilities in the hopes of attracting other cruise ships to the port. In a press statement issued in early February, Carnival Cruise Line indicated it will reveal a “new operational strategy for Mobile,” however no specifics were provided.

“We’ll continue to (upgrade the terminal) so that when the ship returns, we’ll be ready,” said Sandy Stimpson, the mayor of Mobile.

Meanwhile, the Carnival Ecstasy will continue to provide excellent service to the port for the balance of her stay with the fleet. A unique 10-day Carnival Journeys cruise leaving September 12 will visit Key West, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, among other destinations.

Carnival Ecstasy’s last voyage will depart on October 10, 2022, on a 5-day itinerary that will take her to Cozumel and Progreso, and will be her first itinerary following the special Sailabration trip, which will bring her full circle to and from Mobile.
