When asked about the Playa FAM trips, over 70% of advisors agreed that they were “beneficial to their business” and over 90% said they “would attend another FAM trip.” In addition, 50% of advisors attending their first FAM trip said they “would attend another FAM trip, and over 60% said they “would recommend a FAM trip to others.”

Last November, LearnVacation hosted Playa del Carmen’s first ever FAM Trip, and the event is already getting the green light to return next year. Here’s why. Dozens of travel advisors from all over the U.S. were treated to a week of sightseeing, networking and fun, and they had a blast doing it.

Playa Hotels & Resorts has once again invited travel advisors to a FAM information tour in partnership with Delta Air Lines and Delta Vacations. The Reunion Experience took place at the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, where one group of agents stayed from April 18-21 and the second group from April 21-24. April was accommodated.

After selling Delta Vacations in 2018, my relationship with Delta grew and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet my partners in a more intimate setting, said Susie Mhitari, manager and destination wedding specialist at MS Travel & Tours, adding that Playa has also played a big role in her success as an agent and she was happy that the event was held at one of her favorite hotels.

Ana Santos, Sales Manager of Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, stressed the importance of such events, not only for travel consultants, but for the industry as a whole. During the event, agents were able to get first-hand information about the hotel, flights, transportation services and destination, and attendees certainly found time for a well-deserved break in the sun.

By hosting such a group, we give travel agents the opportunity to see for themselves the new reality of the destination and the hotel which has quickly adapted to all health and hygiene requirements and meets all certifications and legal requirements, without compromising our customers and our Heartland service, explains Santos. They can now give their clients the right tools to feel safe traveling in this new reality and test all the protocols that will be applied at every stage of the journey to ensure their safety and ours.

In addition to building relationships and gaining first-hand experience during tough times, travel advisors have also seen an increase in business. Mkhitaryan spoke about the usefulness of such events to their business. She said that shortly after she posted about these events on social media, she received several messages in her inbox. She even booked a stay at the Hyatt Ziva during a welcome dinner for a guest who reached out to her on Instagram to ask if the resort was family-friendly.

Tyler Tixier, SAE NY Sales/National Sales at Delta Air Lines, and Jeanne Peterson, BDM at Delta Vacations in California, spoke about the energy they noticed among travel agents during the event: The special focus on Playa, and the Hyatt Ziva in particular, has generated a lot of interest in future activities. … This has already led to a significant increase in future holiday bookings.

Overall, the experience of reunification has been beneficial to all concerned. After a year of uncertainty and lack of travel, face-to-face events are all the more important in bringing the industry back. Gregory Kip, luxury travel consultant at Protravel International, also spoke positively about the event.

My stay at the incredible Hyatt Ziva was sensational and has rejuvenated me as I begin to sell travel in a post-pandemic world. It was wonderful to spend time with such a diverse group of travel professionals and to visit a great hotel. And as a big Delta fan, I was happy to see their safety and hygiene protocols in action – they make sure passengers are comfortable on board while providing their famously incredible service.
