Norwegian Dawn, sailing from Tampa Bay, Florida, is the tenth Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship to commence service on December 8. With the advent of Norwegian Cruise Line, cruise passengers in Tampa now have a choice of four major US-based cruise lines: Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line.
Norwegian Dawn will go on a series of voyages ranging from five to fourteen days in duration. Locals, though, are objecting to some of her calls.
Norwegian Dawn Arrives at Tampa Bay
Guests from the Tampa region may take a deep dive into the Caribbean with Norwegian Cruise Line. Norwegian Dawn will depart Tampa Bay on December 8 for an 11-day cruise to Key West, Amber Cove, St. Thomas, Curacao, Aruba, and Grand Cayman.

Norwegian Dawn will provide a range of Caribbean cruises from December to April 2022, including 11-day itineraries that include stops in the Bahamas and the Southern Caribbean.
The cruise line’s exclusive resort, Harvest Cay in Belize, is featured on Norwegian Dawn’s 7-day itineraries from Tampa, which also include stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya. A 14-day cruise exploring the Eastern and Southern Caribbean will be offered in February 2022.
Norwegian Cruise Line has ten ships in service.
Norwegian Cruise Line has stepped up the pace recently after a poor start earlier this year, and is currently operating with ten ships throughout the globe, including the Caribbean, Europe, the US west coast, Bermuda, and more.
The Norwegian Jade was the first cruise ship to begin service for the cruise line in July of this year, and the business has since expanded out its completely vaccinated cruise program across the globe.

Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Pearl will both resume service later this year. She is now in the Mediterranean and will shortly traverse the Atlantic Ocean to arrive in Miami, Florida, where she will make her new home. The ship will embark on a series of voyages to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal on December 23.
Protests are expected in Key West, with the fate of Grand Cayman hanging in the balance.
The Norwegian Dawn’s first port of call is Key West, and her last destination is Grand Cayman. In the recent year, two Caribbean ports of call have been in the headlines due to planned cruise ship restrictions. Although the Cayman Islands seem to have done a U-turn recently by letting at least one ship in, Norwegian Dawn’s entry has yet to be confirmed.
For some time now, the situation in Key West has been on the verge of exploding. So much so that neighbors and environmentalists are planning demonstrations against Norwegian Dawn’s arrival.
“The Norwegian Dawn will be the biggest cruise ship to visit Key West since March of 2020,” according to the Key West Committee for Safer, Cleaner Ships. The 91,000-ton big cruise ship is 951 feet long, has a draft of 28 feet, and can accommodate more than 3,200 passengers. The size limitations imposed by a supermajority of local voters, which were subsequently overturned by the Florida Legislature, are substantially exceeded by Norwegian Dawn. Around 10 a.m., the ship is due to land at Pier B.”
(Please note that the Norwegian Dawn has a maximum capacity of 2800 passengers; however, double occupancy capacity is only 2340.)
While cruise ships are prohibited from using the city’s ports, Pier B is run by a private company. Nonetheless, legal arguments over whether or not cruise ships should be barred entirely from Key West persist. Guests aboard have nothing to worry from the demonstrations, according to the same statement from the local environmental group:
“We are protesting the ship and what it symbolizes for our democracy, the environment, and the economy, not the passengers who are innocent.” We will not actively contact with or discourage the passengers on this ship, nor will we obstruct their movements, but we will calmly show our disagreement to the overturning of our election and the continued environmental abuses done by major cruise ships.”
In the case of Grand Cayman, it’s unclear if Norwegian Cruise Line acquired authorization to cruise there from the Cayman Islands. According to reports from the Cayman Islands, only governmental clearance for Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam to dock on December 28 has been obtained. It might indicate another schedule modification for Norwegian Cruise Line, which has been happening a lot recently.
